German double zipp flying boots with history It is not often that I get in items with good history but I have thease flying boots with a letter from the grandson of the special constable who took them off the downed aircrew that I will supply with the item.The following is the research that I have done so far and I am sure that more can be done and of the two names that I have it may be possible to find out the original owner.The boots are worn with some damage but ok, the zipps work,a few repairs and the electric heating tags have been wartime cut off.Raf 43 sqn was on temporay detacment to Prestwick (Ayr) ,At this time 28/05/1941 red section comprising of Flt Lt Du Vivier (23031) and Plt Off Czajkowski (Polish) were scrambled to intercept a lone Ju 88 (A(f)).The Junkers was spotted at 24,000 feet flying east to the south of Glasgow,just before 14.30hrs.Czajkowski`s engine developed an oil leak so Vivier attacked alone.He made three attacks with accurate fire and bits of the Junkers were seen to fall off.Burning the Ju88 crashed at Boghall hill near Newcastleton with two dead crew on board.The other two bailed out and were made pow`s.The aircraft (wk-nr0615vb+km) was from 2/Aufklarungsgruppe and had taken off from Brest at 10.00hrs to photograph Glasgow.The observer Leutnant Fritz Gortman and flight engineer Gefreiter Heinrich Matthias were the two fatalities.The pilot Uffz Herbert Niepel and radio operation/gunner Uffz Josef Lindorfer were the two who got out and were made pow`s thus the boots were on one of thease two men.Boots are UK size 9.
