The 9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen was formed in February 1943.It saw action at Tarnopol in April 1944 where it took part in rescuing German troops from the Kamenets-Podolsky pocket.It was sent to Normandy to oppose the allied landings.It retreated into Belgium before being sent to rest near Arnhem and fought at that famous battle in September 1944.After transferring to Germany it fought in the Ardenne offensive of December 1944.It was then rushed to Hungary in February 1945 for the final offensive actions around Lake Balaton.It finally surrendered to the allies in Austria.

Named NCO/EM Infantry Peaked Cap Super quality soft doe skin material.White piped for Infantry.Quality aluminium insignia.Vulcan fibre peak.Gold silk lined.Makers celluloid label complete-Moormann of Koblenz.Leather sweat band complete though there is some separation to the rear of the band.Wire hat band present.Rare to find such a quality hat to an NCO.Obviously a private purchase hat.Named to Reufels of 7th company-80th regement.80th regement also ink stamped to inner sweatband.Included with the hat is a studio photo of the original owner.This came with the hat.Overall in Very Good condition. The 80th Regement was part of the 34th Infantry Division.Formed in April 1936 and mobilised in August 1939.It manned defensive positions in the saarpfalz in 1939 and later took part in the invasion of France in May 1940.It participated in the invasion of Russia in June 1941 and saw continuous combat with army group centre for almost 3 years.After suffering heavy losses in the relief of the Cherkassy pocket and in the fighting around Uman,it was refitted in May 1944.The division was transferred to Italy in July 1944.Surrendered to the Americans in April 1945.

The 239th Infantry Division saw action in Poland.It next saw action in Southern Russia from June 1941 until it was disbanded in December of that year.

The 29th SS Waffen Grenadier Division (Italienische nr 1) was formed at the end of 1943.At Brigade strength fighting partisans.Himmler was reluctant to grant full ss status to this unit and only red insignia backing was allowed.By april 1944 the ss Brigade had become a full division and was engaged in the fighting around Anzio with considerable skill though losing half their strength in the process.Only then did Himmler award full ss status to the two battalions involved-the so called Vendetta Infantry Battalion and the ss Fusilier Battalion.Only these few troops could now wear the black ss backing to their insignia!Part of the division surrended to the Americans at Gorgonzola on 30th April 1945.The rest were captured by partisans in the lake Como area and massacred to a man. A super rare tunic!
