German Police 8-yrs Long Service Medal

Gold Star medal of a Hero of the Soviet Union to a Senior Lieutenant. Gold Hero of the Soviet Union Numbered 5182, 23K gold star, mint marked. The suspension device is in sterling silver, complete with ribbon and original case of issue. This superb award comes with a translated citation, photocopied paperwork and a very scarce original photograph of the recipient. There is also a McDaniel Authentication certificate also confirming this superb item. This award was awarded to Guards Senior Lieutenant Gavril Berdnikov, battallion commander , 100th Guards Rifle Regt, 35th Guards Rifle Division, 4th Rifle Corps, 8th Guards Army . According to the citation, on 1st August 1944 he was the first to cross the Vistula river under enemy artillery shelling, returning fire even while still in the water. In a bold and daring strike, Berdnikov\'s battallion and the other forward units dislodged the enemy from the river edge, repelled numerous counterattacks and widened the bridgeheadto 4km wide and 5km deep. The battallion then captured two German strongholds and cut the Warsaw Magnuszew highway. Berdnikov showed exceptional resolve and heroism in leading infantry assaults. His battallion inflicted devastating losses upon the enemy; according to the commendation, \' the enemy trenches were littered with bodies of German Soldiers and Officers\'. For his conduct in the battle for Magnuszew bridgehead the title of Hero of the Soviet Union was bestowed upon Gavril Berdnikov on 24th March 1945. Condition of Star, GVF.

Awarded to:- Ivan Efimovich Rusanov.Airforce Reconnaissance Pilot/Observer. Senior Pilot/Observer of the 11th section of the Airforce Reconnaissance group, 3rd Air Army, 1st Baltic front. Captain Rusanov was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union after flying 157 missions of reconnaisance and photography over enemy positions and installations. Other paperwork and translations are also sold with this award document. Condition is very good indeed.

HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT GROUP OF SOVIET AWARDS AND DOCUMENTS PRESENTED TO IGOR YURASOV, CHIEF DESIGNER WITHIN THE SOVIET SPACE PROGRAMME. Labour Hero of the Soviet Union: gold star numbered on reverse (15950) in original red case. Gilt and black printed certificate of award in embossed red folder and outer protective case. USSR Lenin Prize Medal in solid gold numbered on reverse 133, in orginal case of issue. This medal was the Russian equivalent of a Nobel prize award, an award not accepted in Soviet Russia. Gilt and black printed award certificate with tipped in photograph of Lenin, in red leather presentation binding mounted with metal portrait medallion of Lenin. Folding leather cased privilege pass associated with a Lenin Prize medal bearing photograph of Yurasov. On the 12th April, 1961 Major Yuri Gagarin became the first human being in space aboard the 4.7 ton spacecraft Vostock I. He made a complete orbit of the earth reaching an altitude of 327 kilometres, and landed 108 minutes after lift off, having parachuted from the re-entry module at a height of around 7 kilometres. Igor Yurasov was one of the four most important scientists with the Soviet Space Programme from its inception. He was Chief Designer and a leader within the Research and Design Breau, that created the rocket engines for the first Soviet spacecraft. Following Gagarin’s flight he was given the distinction of Labour Hero of the Soviet Union, the citation for the award stating “For outstanding achievements in creating unique examples of rocket technology and maintaining the successful flight of the first human, a Soviet citizen, into space.” The boxed award and boxed issue document were issued by degree of June 17th 1961 by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, and the latter is signed in ink by the then Chairman, and later President of the USSR, Brezhnev. Yurasov had previously received the Lenin Prize Gold Medal with boxed certificate by degree of December 18th, 1957. This high distinction carries numerous special privileges and the leather cased pass with the recipient’s photograph showed his entitlement. When mail was delivered to Soyuz 4 in space in January 1969 Yurasov was one of a few of the most important officials who signed these letters of congratulations. Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross without Swords. Superb item, extremely rare and probably one of the rarest of all the Third Reich Decorations. Only 137 officially issued.This Knights Cross has the ' 900' hallmark together with the No.'1' mark of the manufacturer 'Deschler '. The condition is extremely good and the Cross has its full neck ribbon attached. Should be valued twice as much as a Knights Cross of the Iron Cross on its rareity value alone but unfortunately the later has always been more desirable with the collector.The serious student and collector of Third Reich items will not question this latter statement as they will know how rare this item is. A superb item and priced mainly from desirability rather than from rareity.
